Women for America First filed a lawsuit against Mayor Bill de Blasio over the Black Lives Matter “mural” painted outside of Trump Tower on 5th Avenue. The group submitted a legal request for equal space to paint their own mural several weeks ago. Their request was ignored by the Mayor and so the group has moved forward with their lawsuit.
Women for America First are represented by attorney’s Ron Coleman and Mike Yoder who filed the lawsuit in Manhattan on Thursday night. The lawsuit seeks equal space to paint their mural and for the group’s attorney’s fees to be reimbursed. “Mayor de Blasio clearly intended to send a political message with this stunt outside of Trump Tower,” Women for America First Executive Director Kylie Kremer told America First Projects. “If he’s going to use NYC resources to promote his personal political ambitions it’s only fair that other political messages get equal representation.”

The Lawsuit Against de Blasio
“There has never been a time more important than now to remind those in power that our Constitution does not need to be re-written; it needs to be re-read,” one of the attorneys representing Women for America First, Mike Yoder, told America First Projects after filing the lawsuit against de Blasio. “The first three words of our Constitution are “We the People.” It applies to all, regardless of political ideology.”
As previously reported by America First Projects, the group first sent a letter demanding equal space to paint their slogan. “Engaging, Inspiring and Empowering Women to Make a Difference!”
The suit calls out Mayor de Blasio for using the Black Lives Matter “mural” to further his political ambitions stating, “Defendant de Blasio ran in the Democratic primary for President in 2020 and, on information and belief, has political ambitions to run for national or other elected office as a Democrat after the end of his final term as Mayor of New York City or to be appointed to a prominent position in an anticipated Biden Administration.”
The New York Post ran an article titled: Conservative women’s group sues de Blasio for allowing BLM mural, but blocking theirs. The Post article quotes a retired New York judge lambasting Mayor de Blasio, “It doesn’t strike me that function of a mayor is to start writing slogans on public streets that express political feelings. It shows a dereliction of responsibility at the very top in terms of the management of our city.”
Women for America First are asking to paint an equal mural with their slogan, “Engaging, Inspiring and Empowering Women to Make a Difference!”
