For Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker (D), his mandatory stay at home orders do not seem to apply to his own family. Pritzker admitted that his wife and family have traveled from Chicago to their $12 million equestrian estate in Florida, the family’s farm in Wisconsin and back to Chicago after a reporter for Patch published a story about the travel. All this occurred after the governor locked down the “non-essential masses” in his state. Hypocrisy? Big time.
While his family jets around enjoying their lives, Gov. Pritzker on Friday, added more penalties to businesses that defy his authority and reopen without his blessing. Several State lawmakers were quick to point out that adding criminal penalties to his omnipotent emergency declaration is a step too far, saying the move is beyond his authority.
When asked where Illinois’ first lady was during a news conference, he replied, “Well, first of all, I want to say that in politics, it used to be that we kept our families out of it.” “You know, my official duties have nothing to do with my family, so I’m just not going to answer that question. It’s inappropriate, and I find it reprehensible, honestly, that that reporter wrote a story about it.”
Later, he attempted to justify the family’s travel further by saying: “And they stayed there until very recently, so you know we’ll say, you know, we have a working farm. They’re there now. There are animals on that farm. That is an essential function to take care of animals at a farm.” Seriously, governor? You expect us to believe that your wife and daughter were there to muck out the stables, rope the dogies, and milk the chickens?
As someone who has worked on a “working ranch,” I can assure you that he has plenty of staff to take care of the needs of the animals and clean the stables. It’s a messy job and not something that a family of Pritzker’s wealth is going to be doing. Owners of multi-million dollar equestrian estates show up to ride horses that have been bridled and saddled by grooms and trainers. After the ride, they hand the animal to the same grooms and trainers to do the dirty work.
For the rest of the good people of Illinois, stay home and don’t question the governor on his double standards. Travel and riding horseys are privileges reserved for the families of hypocrites like Gov. Pritzker and from the governor’s point of view, enjoying ‘your life’ is non-essential.
